The Spiritans in Rostock

Th Spiritan community in Rostock exists since 4th May 1994. It was founded as a European project and since 2nd February 2006 belongs to the Circumscription of Europe. Presently there are four confreres in Rostock, F. John Doyle from Ireland, F. Emeka Nzeadibe from Nigeria, F. Andreas Zurawski from Poland and F. Johannes Henschel from Germany.         International and intercultural community life.         Community life is an essential element in the Spiritan way of life. It is a privileged means of practising the evangelical         counsels in the service of the Good News. 28.1 By virtue of our calling we are at the service of the Church’ whose mission it is to gather together into one the scattered children of God. Fraternal life in community builds up the body of Christ. It is living proof that a genuine fraternal unity in Christ is possible. In the non-Christian surroundings of Rostock the Spiritans testify the Good News of the Gospel. 78% of the inhabitants of Mecklenburg don’t belong to a Christian confession. Only 22 % are Christians (360.000 Protestants and 60.000 Catholics). We Spiritans in Rostock therefore engage ourselves in areas where we meet Non-Christians and search for ways to bring Christianity close to non-believers. Die Spiritanerkommunität in Rostock besteht seit dem 4. Mai 1994. Sie war als europäisches Projekt gegründet und gehört seit dem 2. Februar 2006 zum Ordensbezirk Europa. Zur Kommunität gehören im Augenblick P. John Doyle aus Irland, P. Emeka Nzeadibe aus Nigeria, P. Andreas Zurawski aus Polen und P. Johannes Henschel aus Deutschland. Das "Direktorium zur Organisation der Spiritaner" sagt in der Nr. 11: "Das Zusammenleben von Gemeinschaften, die international und interkulturell ausgerichtet sind, ist ein klares Zeichen der Zeit und eín Weg in die Zukunft. Es ist ein Zeugnis gelebter Brüderlichkeit." Pfarrkirche St. Josef, Rostock In dem nichtchristlichen Umfeld von Rostock bezeugen die Spiritaner die Botschaft des Evangeliums. Insgesamt 78 % der Einwohner Mecklenburgs gehören keiner christlichen Konfession an. Nur 22 % sind Christen (360.000 Protestanten und 60.000 Katholiken). Die Spiritaner in Rostock übernehmen daher vorrangig Aufgaben, in denen sie Nichtchristen begegnen, und suchen Wege, um den Glauben auch Nichtglaubenden nahe zu bringen. Schon die Tatsache, dass sie in einer multikulturellen Gemeinschaft leben, schafft Aufmerksamkeit.
